New York artist CRAIG ANCZELOWITZ seamlessly merges art, design, fashion and craft traditions in his new mix-media artworks for RAYCOAL. Craig’s multi-layered pieces weave unique visual narratives and draw textural parallels between New York & Japan.

Born in the Bronx (NYC), Craig was raised in a world of eclectic music, international culture and advanced creativity. With his father’s restaurant next to the legendary ‘Fillmore East’ concert hall, musicians (Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin...), artists, designers and other creative bohemians would often trade their works for meals filling Craig’s home with a mix of music, crafts & curiosities to fuel his imagination. Craig would find added inspiration within his uncles’ colorful vintage clothing store; one of the first “hipster” shops in New Yorks’ Lower East Side. Immersed in a diverse creative mix from an early age, an undeniable artistic seed was planted in Craig. This seed would steadily grow; giving rise to a unique artistic milieu and material sensibility that remains at the core of Craig’s impressive textural works.

Craig’s career is highlighted by numerous international art exhibitions and award-winning design collaborations. He’s served as guest lecturer at Parsons School of Design, Pratt School of Design and NY School of Visual Arts among others.

Now based in Japan, Craig works with his wife’s family washi paper business while pursuing new creative directions for his art. Following RAYCOAL, he has upcoming shows scheduled for Bangkok, Pennsylvania and New York.

ニューヨーク出身のアーティストCRAIG ANCZELOWITZは、アート、デザイン、ファッション、クラフトの伝統を隙間なく融合させ、RAYCOALのための新しいミックスメディアアートワークを発表しました。クレイグの多層的な作品は、ユニークな視覚的物語を織り成し、ニューヨークと日本の質感の類似を描き出しています。

ニューヨークのブロンクスに生まれたクレイグは、多彩な音楽、国際的な文化、そして高い創造性の中で育ちました。父親の経営するレストランは、伝説的なコンサートホール「フィルモア・イースト」に隣接しており、ミュージシャン（ジミ・ヘンドリックス、ジャニス・ジョプリンなど）、アーティスト、デザイナー、その他のクリエイティブな来客が訪れ、食事を介して自分たちの作品について語る場であったことから、身近な刺激が彼の創造性を掻き立たせました。また、彼の叔父が経営する古着屋は、ニューヨークのローワーイーストサイドにある最初の新鋭ショップのひとつで、クレイグはそこからさらなるインスピレーションを得ることになります。幼い頃からこのような多様なクリエイティブな環境に置かれ、彼の中には紛れもない芸術の種が植えられていました。この種は着実に成長し、クレイグの印象的なテクスチャー作品の核となる、ユニークな芸術環境と素材感覚を生み出すことになったのです。

クレイグは数多くの国際的な美術展や作品展等で入賞し、パーソンズ・スクール・オブ・デザイン、プラット・スクール・オブ・デザイン、NYスクール・オブ・ビジュアル・アーツなどで客員講師としても勤めました。

現在は日本を拠点に、妻の実家の和紙ビジネスを手伝いながら、自身のアートにおける新たな方向性を追求しています。この作品展についてはRAYCOALに続き、バンコク、ペンシルバニア、ニューヨークでの展覧が予定されています。
